DRUGS USED IN VETERINARY-MEDICINE .1. ENROFLOXACIN REVISITED

In October of 1992, Miles Agricultural Division, Animal Health Products, in conjunction with its European parent company, Bayer AG, held the First International Baytril(R) Symposium in Bonn, Germany. The forum brought together scientific investigators from around the world representing industry, academia, and practice. These individuals shared the results of clinical studies on the use of enrofloxacin for treating bacterial infections in small and exotic animals. Topics discussed by the investigators ranged from enrofloxacin disposition to the efficacy of enrofloxacin in the treatment of a variety of infectious disorders. The intent of this article is to share the pertinent information presented at this symposium. Though my participation in the meeting was sponsored by Miles, this article is an independent effort. Please note that many of the recommendations in this article regarding the use of enrofloxacin constitute extralabel use.
