BONDING OF LITHIUM ZINC SILICATE GLASS-CERAMICS TO NICKEL-BASED SUPERALLOYS

摘要
Lithium zinc silicate glasses containing a high proportion of zinc are of interest in the manufacture of hermetic seals to nickel-based superalloys. The influence of glass composition and process parameters on the microstructural and thermal properties of the glass-ceramic have been studied by a number of techniques including DTA, XRD, SEM and dilatometry. The presence of cristobalite, quartz and gamma and beta lithium zinc silicate has been confirmed by XRD. Thermal expansion has been shown to be markedly dependent on the thermal history of the glass-ceramics.
