摘要：
The developmental stages of a city as a scene of rapid social, economic and technological transformation are concerned in the article. Different postwar situation of Europe implied different development of west and east European cities. Another substantial change in the understanding the role of a city was inferred after 1989. The newest phenomenon influencing the role and structure of the city is the globalisation. The fundamental features of socialist and fordist city as well as postsocialist and postfordist cities are concerned.
