In this paper relevant engineering initiatives that are currently being developed by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to enhance regulatory effectiveness are described. The board issues addressed are: Piping Design and Non-Destructive Examination, Pressurized Thermal Shock, Containment Integrity During Severe Accidents, and Equipment Qualification.
