WILL EDUCATION - A TOPIC FOR EDUCATIONAL-PSYCHOLOGY

Despite a strong interdisciplinary interest in 'self-regulation', recent educational research has neglected volitional action and its role in enhancing self-determination. In the present paper, I will focus on recent research on volitional action in motivational psychology and relate it to historical concepts in german 'will-psychology' and 'will-education'. In the second part, I will discuss applied prespectives, focussing on the development of competencies that facilitate conscious self-regulation and that can be seen as elements of a developmentally oriented volitional education.
