A MANUFACTURERS VIEW OF ROBOTICS

The methodology adopted by one tableware manufacturer to the mechanisation of long established and craft based processes is set out. A structured approach is proposed, in which the criteria for the selection of process elements as candidates for investment are examined. The implications of proceeding and on subsequent operations, the effects on the structure of the organisation and systems, and the post-investment actions required are considered. Emphasis is placed on the human aspects of the project, stressing the importance of careful selection, training, and motivating of personnel. (C) 1994 The Institute of Materials.
