Silver-sheathed (Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10 superconducting tapes with critical current density up to 40,000 A/cm2 at 77K and 0T have been successfully fabricated through the combination of powder-in-tube technique and a repeated pressing and annealing process. The obtained tapes were characterised in terms of phase analyses, microstructural observations and electrical measurements. The results indicate that pure high-T(c) phase high degree of grain alignment and intimate connection between grains are essential for achieving a high current carrying capacity in the Bi-Pb-Sr-Cu-O superconducting tapes. J(c) development during the process of beat treatment was related to the high-T(c) phase formation and microstructural evolution of tapes.
