FINITE-ELEMENT ANALYSIS IN THE DESIGN OF RUBBER COMPONENTS

This paper presents examples of the many applications Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has had in the design of Avon Rubber products including those on the analysis of engine mounts, wiper blades, cord reinforced components and diaphragms. With the aid of additional material models the accuracy of stiffness and deformed shape prediction has been good. Stress analysis is currently used as a comparative tool for improving fatigue life. With continued use, it is suggested that FEA will facilitate the generation of quantitative fatigue life rules.
