EDUCATION FOR INFORMATION-SCIENCE IN CHINA

In China, there are about 25 universities which have established information programs. The programs can be classified into two types: library information programs and specialized information programs. The purpose of the Department of Information Engineering and its Specialized Information Program at Jilin University of Technology (JUT) is to prepare students to work at both the Beijing comprehensive information center and other centers throughout the country. The primary users of these centers are management and engineering professionals. Professionals supplying information should have knowledge in the subject area. Therefore, the Specialized Information Program is an attempt to address the perceived shortage of graduates with engineering and management science backgrounds entering the information profession.
