摘要
This paper contributes a contrasting analysis of the current role of information systems development methods in today's organizations. Currently the field is dominated by an obsolete nineteenth-century perspective that is unsuitable for post-modem organizations. There is strong evidence that a preoccupation with methodical approaches to information problems severely limits our ability to respond effectively to organizational information requirements. The basic assumption that methodical approaches are necessary and beneficial has been obsolete for some time, primarily because newer technologies (such as fourth-generation languages and local area networks) have enabled alternative systems development approaches.
