The beginning of the eighteenth century was marked by the emergence of the first Portuguese official newspaper, Gazeta de Lisboa, in 1715, which is a milestone in our history. A century later, Portugal continues to have this important body of information, allowing us to create a corpus of work with about one million words, representative of the state of the language during these two centuries (18th and 19th centuries). In this paper, assisted by computational linguistic tools (automatic text analysis programs), we intend to analyze the adverbs ending in - mente that occur in the text and analyze the different positions occupied by these adverbs in the sentence, so that we can check if there was any significant change and how the predominance of a particular position may have influenced the meaning of the adverb itself.
