CUTANEOUS METASTASES OF VISCERAL CARCINOMAS - REPORT OF 239 CASES AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

This report examines the characteristics of 239 patients with cutaneous metastases of visceral carcinomas. Mean age was between 60 and 70 years, with a female prevalency. The pertinet literature is reviewed, and considerations are made with reference to pathophysiology and immunohistochemistry (tumor markers). We conclude that mammary carcinoma appears to be as the most frequent type of primary tumor related to cutaneous metastases in this study, and followed by carcinomas localized primarily in the lung, colon, thyroid, kidney, rectum, stomach, prostate, pancreas, uterus, testicle, ovary and gallbladder.
