Poecilohetaerus Hendel is redefined and includes 14 species, 9 of them new: aquilus, balius, castaneus, convergens, incomptus, leucopus, nigrifrons, pinnatus and xanthopus. P. schineri Hendel and P. albolineatus Hendel are redescribed and diagnostic and distributional notes are given for P. punctatifacies Tonnoir and Malloch, P. ravus Schneider and McAlpine and P. trivittatus Schneider and McAlpine. A key to species is provided. The biology, collection localities and geographic distribution of the species are discussed.
