RAPID CLONAL PROPAGATION IN SESBANIA-CANNABINA THROUGH INVITRO SHOOT PROLIFERATION FROM SHOOT TIP EXPLANTS

In vitro clonal propagation of Sesbania cannabina was achieved by culturing shoot tip explants of 7 days old seedlings on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1mgl-1, 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) +0.5 mgl-1 kinetin (Kn)+50 mgl-1 tyrosine. Multiple shoots were induced to form by enhancement of axillary branching. With 4 weeks of culture, 10-15 shoots developed per explant in a shoot clump. Adventitious rooting occurred following subculturing of excised shoots on MS medium containing 0.5 mgl-1 indole 3-butyric acid (IBA). Regenerated plantlets were successfully established on soil.
