Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Interns, Graduates and Postgraduate Students at Private Dental Colleges in Ahmedabad Regarding Bio Medical Waste Management

摘要
Aim: To access knowledge, attitude and practices of interns, graduates and post graduate students at private dental colleges in Ahmedabad regarding Bio Medical Waste management. Materials and Methods: The present cross sectional questionnaire study was conducted in Ahmedabad city. The study sample included 135 intern, graduates and postgraduates. The survey was scheduled to spread over a period of 1 month. Data was collected by using self designed questionnaire. Questionnaire was administered by investigator himself to each participant on scheduled days and collected back on next visit. Collected data was coded, compiled and tabulated. The data was analyzed by applying descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Analysis was carried out using SPSS package version 17. Results: 135 dentists responded. Participants were having average knowledge about amendment and proposed bio medical waste law. Knowledge regarding symbol of bio medical waste were little low. Half of the participants were saying that this may increase financial burden. The majority of the participants were having good knowledge regarding bio medical waste management. Whereas their attitude towards the same was found little low which is not an alarming situation and they were doing fair practice of the same. Conclusion: The participants had variable but consistent knowledge about bio medical waste management. The views of the participants varied considerably, as inferred by the results.
