摘要：
The present paper attempts to examine the work participation, prior and after mechanization, of womenfolk from 167 fishing households of two coastal villages of south 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Mechanization has taken away net making job from the fishing families and induced fisherwomen to undertake net mending activity. Fisherwomen have now been compelled to take up activities not related to fishing for their subsistence.
