The data on the accelerating effect of anthraquinone derivatives on the intergranular corrosion of austenitic stainless steels is presented. Tensile stress also accelerates the intergranular corrosion of sensibilized steels, and sometimes causes its transformation to intergranular corrosion cracking. The data showed tensile stress and 1-nitro-2-methylanthraquinone to accelerate by a factor of 10 the intergranular corrosion of sensibilized steel in boiling 0.5% sulphuric-acid solution. The damage of the autoclaves' lining, used for manufacturing the semiproducts of anthraquinone dyes, is shown to possess the intergranular-corrosion nature.
