THE EXPERIENCE OF THE SOCIAL WORK PROFESSIONAL IN BASIC HEALTH CARE

This study aims to ponder on the professional experience of Social Work in Primary Health Care (ABS), inserted in the Program of Multiprofessional Residency in Child Health, and its operation developed in the Basic Health Unit (UBS), located in the northwest region of the city of Campinas, state of Sao Paulo. From the nursing to the institutional dynamics, one can observe the challenges that are imposed in the daily routine of professional activity. ABS is the entrance for users in the Unified Health System (SUS), which is the driving force to think about the totality of the lives of users accessing this service, either in the defense of the right to a health care, or in the referral and interface with the socio-welfare network. The considerable number of demands expresses the needs in the expanded concept of health, legitimized by SUS. All the social demands reveal the enormous deficiency of the real access to social protection in the territory. For Social Work, the challenge is to constantly seek alternatives for building a process of action, with the social protection network, in a human rights perspective, in line with the Federal Constitution, the Social Ethical and Political Service Project, and principles of the Code of Professional Ethics. This report aims to contribute to the discussion of the role of the Social Worker in UBS and the importance of the role of the resident in the service aiming at the quality of life of the users.
