摘要
This article is an overview of advance care planning, which is a process that supports adults at any age or stage of health understand and share their personal values, life goals, and preferences regarding future medical care. It increases the likelihood that an individual's treatment wishes will be known and respected during serious illness and at the end of life. Advance directives and physician orders for life-sustaining treatment are defined, compared, and contrasted.
