From Journalistic Truth to the Constitutional concept of Accurate Journalism. Rethinking the required truth in the exercise of Press Freedom

Talking about journalistic truth is the same as talking about rebuilding reality through a story. In the newspaper articles, the key of narrative skill is the Reporter's outlook over the noticeable events. This overview -theoretically very different from the legal perspective- is shared by the Spanish Constitutional Court in its Jurisprudence about Freedom of Expression between 1980 and 2005. The article compares the concept of the "Journalistic Truth" with the constitutional idea of "Accurate Journalism". To the Spanish Constitutional Court the most significant element which shows the accuracy of a newspaper story is the presence of the professional diligence on the part of the Journalist in the news process making. The main consequence of this point of view is that the "Accurate Journalism" does not mean that the newspaper stories transmit exactly the reality, but, on the contrary, such stories transmit the essential data adequately obtained by the Reporter
