UNDERGRADUATE AND POSTGRADUATE TEACHING ON THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE THIRD-WORLD

This paper reports on the findings of a survey of geography departments in British institutions of higher education concerning undergraduate and postgraduate teaching on developing areas. It argues that courses on the Third World are popular and form an important element in the degree programmes of most institutions. However, many institutions only offer a limited range of courses and retain a strong regional focus. The small number of postgraduates undertaking research or taught higher degrees on developing countries gives rise to concern over the future of the subject.
