PSOAS ABSCESS CAUSED BY AN INFECTED AORTIC GRAFT - A CASE-REPORT

The aorta is rarely a cause of pyogenic abscess of the psoas despite their close proximity. The authors report a case of an infected aortic graft, Documented by paraprosthetic gas on computed tomography, that progressed to frank pyogenic psoas abscess. The patient was successfully treated by graft excision, abscess drainage, and extra-anatomic bypass. Although rarely reported, clearly an infected aortic graft may be the cause of psoas abscess. Signs and symptoms of psoas abscess may dominate the clinical picture.
