A doctoral dissertation, entitled Electronic records preservation: new challenges, old problems, was completed in the Doctor of Information Science Program of the School of Information Science, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, during 2000-2004, taking a transdisciplinary approach to the digital information archival environment in Brazilian public medium and large size organizations to identify specific factors serving as conditions for preservation. This article offers an overview of the investigation, sketching purposes and methodology, synthesizing the conceptual analysis and discussing the main discoveries..
