Music Therapy and Developmental Disabilities: A Glance Back and a Look Forward

Terms and descriptors may come and terms and descriptors may go. Techniques and understandings, however, hopefully continue to evolve and improve. The purpose of this paper is to address the topic of past, current, and future trends in serving people who have developmentally disabling conditions. This will include a discussion of changing terminology, educational, and public policies regarding services, and implications for music therapy practice.
