QUALITY OF LIFE, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION IN PATIENT SURVIVORS OF STROKE IN TOGO

Introduction Stroke is the first cause of acquired psychological and physical handicap in the world. Objective: Evaluate the anxiety, depression and the quality of life in patient survivors of stroke. Method We made a prospective study during 12 months concerning the after-effects of stroke in 114 patients followed up 6 months ago after their stroke attack. The Goldberg, QOLIE and the Rankin modified scales were used. Results The average age of patients was 47 years old with the extremes of 21 to 73. On CT-scan we founded out ischemic stroke in 83.33% (n=95) and haemorrhage in 16.7% (n=19). The patients were more depressed than anxious with respective average of 4.48 and 4.44 on Goldberg scale. The quality of life was spoil in patients with stroke with an average of 0.94 on QOLIE-31 scale. We observed on Rankin modified scale 26.3% (30) patients survivors of with no handicap, 38.6% (44) had a slight handicap, means handicap in 31.6% (36) and severe handicap were founded in 3.5% (04). Conclusion The handicap, anxiety and depression are the mainly measurable parameters which thirsty the daily quality of life in patients survivors of stroke.
