Processes of residential segregation in the gypsy population. The case of Almeria

The objective of this work is to measure and to analyze the processes of residential segregation of the gypsies that live in Almeria. For it, we have used the main measure indexes: segregation and isolation. In the same way, they have been carried out two surveys. The first one was administered to the gypsy population, in which register socioeconomic, cultural and residential indicators. The second was administering to the population autochthonous non gypsy; in that survey we study the emotions, attitudes and behaviours toward gypsy. The results show that the gypsies present high segregation figures and that the main causes of this situation are the prejudices and discrimination that suffer on the part of the autochthonous non gypsies and of their economic capacity and, in smaller grade, the preferences for the own group.
