Exposure, shame and social avoidance

In this overview the main focus will be the shame and emotion regulation based on definitions of the early development of the self. Even at the age of four first indication in social behavior of children could be observed such as shyness with strangers and withdrawal. The age in which social anxiety symptoms can be observed for the first time is the puberty. In the puberty the drive fear leads to a labialization of the self that impresses especially the narcissistic vulnerability. Feelings of shame signalize poorly integrated and incongruent parts of the self. Therefore, it can be concluded that is an extremely important dimension of the entire development process of the personality and the interpersonal regulation.
