UNIVERSITIES, GOVERNMENT POLICY AND THE STUDY OF EDUCATION IN BRITAIN

A number of changes are taking place in government policy towards universities in Britain, and especially towards their funding. This paper considers the impact of these changes on departments of education in universities, polytechnics and colleges of higher education, and some of the ways in which these departments have adapted their modes of work to take account of these changes.
