摘要：
As of 1992 it is a requirement for the European Union to include a clause on human rights in the majority of its commercial and cooperation agreements. These clauses are almost identical and allow the immediate suspension of the treaty in case of a severe human rights violation. This paper analyzes the historical origin and the genuine application of these clauses.
