摘要
Modernization of Russian justice in the Imperial period took place in several stages. The most significant one was the so-called reform period (the second half of the 19th century). During the 1864-1899 judicial reform, the measures were taken to establish the court which would be fast, equal, merciful and just. Justice was the ideological category which determined the institutional and functional basis of the new justice. The latter promoted to professional legal consciousness of lawyers who promoted to mass consciousness. Overall, the reform contributed to the development of legal culture contradicting legal nihilism typical of Russian society.
