The Political Power of Geography and Its Importance For Turkey In A Globalizing World

We live in an information age in which innovations and improvements in communication and transportation sectors develop very fast with the help of improvement of computer technology. Nations within our gradually globalizing world are aware of and influenced by political, economic, and social developments of each corner of the world at such scale that has never been before. In order to save themselves and even take benefit from developments of the world, countries that avoid these developments need much more contemporary geography science and its advanced methods and techniques than ever before. It is said in this respect that a country's power in the world's political arena, in terms of its economic and political aspect, is in maximizing its geographic and relative location and in identifying other countries' physical, human and cultural points of view. As a matter of fact, benefits that countries take from today's or tomorrow's commercial, military, economic, cultural and social relationships with the other nations will increase or decrease in terms of how well they know themselves and the other countries. Turkey is surely going to be one of the most affected by internal and regional political issues in the future. In this study, the role of contemporary geography science, including its advanced methods, techniques, and equipment, is suggested as a tool for resolving Turkey's international political problems and for establishing Turkey's future strength in terms of the world's political, economic and cultural aspects.
