摘要
Diffusion at room temperature can become fast in a metal, if it contains large concentrations of vacancies after cold working or fast cooling from high temperatures with or without plastic deformation. This effect was investigated in the copper-zinc system. Artificial aging at 140-degrees-C, a process discovered by Friedrich Heusler in the copper-nickel-manganese alloy Manganin, drastically lowered the diffusion rate. An explanation is given, which processes in the metal cause artificial aging.
