The second Vatican Council and new perspectives upon the old book

We show in this article how around the Second Vatican Council emerged a "new vision upon the old book", a new way of reading and interpreting the Bible. This new way is characterized especially by the plain acknowledge of the historical-critical and literary methods by the Catholic Church and by the reading of the biblical texts in correlation with the context of their origin and the context of today, which favors the reading of Bible in Christian people community. We appoint a germinal presence of this new vision before the Council, its maturation during the Council - especially because of the confrontation with the socio-historical context that was brought about by the preparation of Gaudium et Spes - and his effect after the Council, particularly in the Latin-American Bible reading.
