THE ROLE OF ETHNIC-IDENTITY AND ACCULTURATION IN THE VOCATIONAL BEHAVIOR OF ASIAN-AMERICANS - AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Literature on Asian American ethnic identity, acculturation, and assimilation was reviewed, integrated, and related to vocational behavior in this article. Models of Asian American ethnic identity and acculturation were compared and areas needing better definition and differentiation were identified. A single, integrated model of various ethnic and/or racial identity and acculturation models was proposed to guide future research. Suggestions were made for future areas of research in uniting ethnic identity and acculturation models. Relations between Asian American ethnic identity, acculturation, and vocational behavior were identified using propositions drawn from analysis of the literature and offered as hypotheses for future research.
