摘要
We have evaluated surface roughness parameters of Ag films evaporated onto fluoride films. For CaF2 and LiF films, the roughness has been enhanced with the increase of the thickness of the fluoride film. In the case of MgF2, the roughness has been hardly influenced by a variation in fluoride film thickness. The efficiency of conversion of the surface plasmon polariton energy into light at the air/Ag film interface in a prism/fluoride film/Ag film/air geometry has been experimentally evaluated. The experimental values of conversion efficiency have been compared with those estimated from the Kroger-Kretschmann theory on light scattering through surface roughnesses.
