Educational innovation among nurses in the context of early work experience

During their integration into the health system, new nursing graduates encounter many challenges, in particular with health situations that are becoming ever more complex. They frequently see clinical situations they have not previously been exposed to-an inevitability given the variety and complexity of real-world practice. It is therefore essential to adequately support and equip new nurses for the particular context within which they will be working in the Quebec health care system, while enabling them to provide quality care. Educational innovation is one way to meet the needs of this new generation which will have to learn to navigate in the health system and be rapidly functional. This paper presents a definition and a contextualisation of educational innovation. It will highlight the incentives and barriers to innovation, will describe its impact on training and clinical practice and will differentiate the strategies which lead to the development of innovation. Finally, different levers to ensure sustainability of the innovation will be discussed.
