A petrologic analysis of these banded fabrics from several carbonate-hosted sulfide deposits and their host rocks was carried out. All available petrologic evidence indicates that these banded fabrics are cement-filled, sheet cavity networks in which the host rocks were replaced by ore-stage phases. These sheet cavities appear to have been produced immediately prior to, or during, sulfide precipitation and, in one instance, appear to postdate the onset of stylolitization. The sheet cavities appear to be produced by fracturing and solution enlargement. -from Authors
