COMPLEXES OF SODIUM TETRAPHENYLBORATE WITH CROWN ETHERS

Complexes of sodium tetraphenylborate (NaBPh4) with 12-crown-4 (12C4), 15-crown-5 (15C5), and 18-crown-6 (18C6) are synthesized and studied. For 15C5 and 18C6, complexes with a [Na]:[crown] ratio = 1:1 are formed; for 12C4, 1:2. The IR spectra and x-ray powder patterns are recorded and thermogravimetric analyses are performed for the synthesized complexes. In contrast with the NaBPh4 complexes with 15C5 and 18C6, [Na(12C4)2]BPh4 decomposes without preliminary melting. Interplanar spacings of the lattices of the synthesized complexes are calculated from the powder patterns.
