A UNIVERSAL DATA MODEL HOLDER FOR DATA DICTIONARY SYSTEMS

Current data dictionary packages are based on different structures and support a wide variety of data models. In this work, a basic generalized structure for data dictionary systems is suggested and it provides for holders for both a data and a process model of the information system described by the dictionary. The author suggests and describes a data structure for a data model holder which is capable of holding the data model that describes the information systems data elements, their structures, their interrelationships and their use. It is also shown how the structure suggested is universal and suitable for holding data models resulting from eight different data modelling techniques and views. Finally, it is suggested that this structure is suitable for being adopted as a basis for a universal data model holder for a new generation of data dictionary systems.
