RUINS, CEMETERIES AND UNDERGROUND IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XVIII CENTURY: PUNISHABLE CRIME AND THE EMPIRE OF BEAUTY, TERRIFYING STORIES BY LOAISEL DE TREOGATE
There are two main topics within the framework of terror in the 18(th) century: cemeteries and underground. Ideal for mystery and crime, these concepts immerse the reader in another world where superficial logic and morals have no place. It is the perfect atmosphere for a disturbed mind. Ruins become clearly disturbing during the second half of this century. In order to analyse these horrific and landscape elements, this work focuses on two moral tales by Loaisel de Treogate (1752-1812): Le Crime puni and L'Empire de la beaute. Both tales are part of his Soirees de melancolie (1777), which is a relevant work of this period
