摘要
This article intends to discuss the role attributed to language in the Book III, Of Words, from John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1979). It goes without saying that Locke's arguments played an influential role on the philosophy of the 17th and 18th century; nowadays it's influence is still perceivable. I do not aim to explore this influence on such a reduced space, it will, however, be superficially portrayed. Therefore I intend to show the importance of Book III mainly when it comes to the philosophy of language. So, based on a few excerpts, I will be able to analyze how the above mentioned topics contribute to the debate about translation
