NON-LTE MODELING OF X-RAY LASER INTERACTION WITH PLASMAS

摘要
We have studied the atomic processes involved in the interaction of an intense x-ray beam (photon energy 60eV) with a helium plasma using a time-dependent average atom model. The calculation predicts strong population inversion on many resonance transitions. One of the most interesting predictions is gain on free-bound transitions as a result of stimulated recombination at high x-ray intensities. This has the potential of a tunable x-ray laser.
