摘要：
The Geography Department of the University of Auckland has offered a senior level undergraduate course in geographical information systems (GIS) since 1985. The course focuses on providing a good conceptual and practical introduction to GIS as well as teaching spatial analysis within the GIS framework, and is supported by a laboratory programme using both public domain and commercial software. This paper reports a set of programmes developed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of vector and raster data structures, and to allow them to experiment with procedures for line generalization.
