摘要
Background: The transition from the ICU to the ward is for many patients synonymous with anxiety, stress and confusion. Aim: To obtain a deeper understanding of how the adult patient experiences the transition from ICU to the ward, and what is important for the patient during this transition. Method: A qualitative design with semi-structured research interviews, where three patients aged 65-70 years were included. The interviews were conducted on the ward at a Danish University hospital two to eight days after the transition. The empirical material was analyzed and interpreted from deductive content analysis. Results: three themes were identified from the cross-sectional analysis: hard to recollect from the intensive care stay, desire for a normal way of life and a situation out of control. Conclusion: Patients want to be involved in their own care and treatment, have their basic needs fulfilled and receive more information about their condition, situation and future prospects. The findings may help to increase nurses' focus on patients' individual needs in the transition. Further research is needed, both nationally and internationally.
