Fragments from 1806 on Philosophy and Religion by Friedrich Schlegel: Study and Translation

The following text is a translation from a set of private fragments, written by Friedrich Schlegel in 1806. They point out, in an exemplary way, to the tensions raised within the horizon of his coming conversion to Catholicism, that would take place, officially, in 1808, though it was being since 1804 rehearsed, The relatively exoteric character of such fragments is, furthermore, due to the way they make an effort towards a compatibilization between the reflection on nature emerging, for instance, from its considerations on pantheism - and a Catholic theology of affection. The text is preceded by an introduction that deals with the relation of Friedrich Schlegel to theology and complexifies the affirmation according to which his conversion would be an abandonment of his previous views.
