INDUSTRIAL-REQUIREMENTS FOR A CLASSIFICATION-SYSTEM

Groupisol, the 'Association of the EEC Manufacturers of Technical Ceramics', has actively supported efforts to establish standards in the field of advanced technical ceramics and an overview is given of what has been achieved. The view of this trade association on the need of proper standardization of classification of the products of the industry is given. The importance of an internationally accepted classification system as a basis for terminology, production and trade statistics, tariffs and databanks is stressed. The different goals for which the system will be developed may require that several classification criteria will have to be used side by side. Groupisol actively supports the pre-standardization effort of the VAMAS working group TW14 which organizes the Ispra workshop.
