摘要:
Many studies on sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) have cited non-breastfeeding as a primary risk factor. The much larger quantity of available iron in the diet of nonbreast-fed infants, as compared with those given human milk, permits multiplication and toxigenesis of such pathogens as Salmonella and Clostridium. Excessive quantities of iron in proprietary formulas and supplements given to infants < 6 months have been associated with increased risk of salmonellosis, botulism, and SIDS. (C) 1994 Wiley-Liss.
