摘要
Scanning tunneling microscopy is employed to investigate the formation of inhibitory polyphenol layers on glassy carbon surfaces. Different anodization conditions lead to significant differences in the film morphology. The different surface structures are attributed to different mechanisms of the polymerization reaction. The images obtained in solution are correlated to the loss of electrochemical activity, as indicated from voltammograms of marker species (ferricyanide and catechol). Analogous images are given for the passivation of glassy carbon electrodes due to exposure to air.
