The monument to the dead of Aix-les-Bains. A work by Alfred Boucher

The city of Aix- les- Bains was a spa town of world renown in the early twentieth century, and felt obliged to build a war memorial worthy of its international reputation. It accepted the offer of the Alfred Boucher, a sculptor who had moved to Aix- les- Bains and adopted it as his home town. His proposal was for a war memorial of monumental proportions and with an original approach in the way it used different materials. It was not a unique monument, however, as the artist reproduced some of the sculpted groups in other war memorials elsewhere in France.
