Job, "Nice people" and Nation in Colombia during the XIX Century

The hypothesis that organizes this article is that in achieving recognition as honorable people craftsmen did manual labor central to the construction of a worthy life, personal and family. The traditional discourse linked the defense of native production, habits and consumption possibilities of the common people, working with the contribution of material to the formation of the nation and the characteristics that it should possess. Both social practices and discourse that necessarily went through organized participation in public life and therefore in an active exercise of citizenship.
